Movember is a global movement that annually takes place during November, where men around the world grow mustaches to raise awareness for vital men’s health issues. The name “Movember” is a combination of “mustache” and “November,” which symbolizes the significance of mustaches in this campaign. There have been thousands of men who went to CG Barbershop over the last four years, and since the pandemic, more of them have been opening up about some of the struggles that they have gone through. This is why the barbershop utilizes its business as a platform and its community to normalize the discussion of mental health amongst men. However, it’s not just about facial hair; it’s a platform to spotlight essential men’s health concerns, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and, most notably, men’s mental health.

Why Movember Matters

Men often face a daunting path when dealing with their mental health. Society’s expectations can force them into the role of the stoic, resilient figure, leaving little room for vulnerability and seeking assistance. Yet, Movember’s magic lies in dismantling these barriers. It invites men to open up, share their stories, and support each other.

The statistics on men’s mental health cannot be ignored:

  • Suicide ranks as the leading cause of death among Australian men aged 15-44.
  • Men are three times more likely to succumb to suicide than women.
  • One in eight Australian men will grapple with depression in their lifetime.
  • One in five Australian men will experience anxiety in their lifetime.
  • Movember sets out to rewrite this narrative, and you can be a part of this transformative journey.

A lot of men often struggle in silence, and now is the time to change that. CG Barbershop supports Movember to help create a culture where the new generations will feel safe to be more vulnerable and open up about their mental health.  You might wonder, “What can men do to bolster their mental health?” The answer, while simple, carries profound significance:

  • Confide in a trusted person about your feelings.
  • Seek professional assistance when needed.
  • Regular exercise can work wonders.
  • A balanced diet lays a strong foundation.
  • Prioritize a good night’s sleep.
  • Avoid the pitfalls of alcohol and drugs.
  • These are the building blocks of a transformed mental health journey.

CG Barbershop’s Movember Campaign

This November, CG Barbershop and the Al Jalila Foundation are teaming up to raise awareness of men’s mental health in the UAE, with a special event featuring Emirati businessman and motivational speaker Essa AlAnsari. The University of Wollongong in Dubai is hosting the event, joining the mission to break the silence surrounding men’s mental health. Essa AlAnsari, who has faced his own mental health challenges, aims to inspire others to speak out and seek help.

With a male clientele, CG Barbershop understands the importance of normalizing mental health discussions among men. Our collective efforts aim to create a more open, supportive environment for men’s mental health in the UAE and beyond.

To support this cause, CG Barbershop’s barbers will be growing mustaches, and we will be offering a Movember Package. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from this package will be donated to the Al Jalila Foundation. You can book your appointment online at cgbarbershop.com or by calling +971(0) 42274666. Join us in making a difference in men’s health awareness this Movember!
